Friendship and Women of Faith

Most of my extended family doesn’t live close so we don’t see each other very often, so I really appreciate my friends. And what’s better is we’re sisters in Christ.

In several weeks, I’ll attend a Women of Faith event, my first. We’ll share the worship, the teaching, the fellowship, and the fun of this event. Looking forward to it! But it wouldn’t be the same without my friend.

Same’s true in life. I think that’s why Jesus likes to be close. You know that feeling you get when you see something spectacular and you want to share it with someone? You want to say, “Hey, come look at this” so two of you can share the awe. Jesus is there for that moment. Your spouse can’t always be there beside you. Even your friends can’t always be there beside you. But Jesus is more than beside you, He’s inside you. That’s close.

A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
(Prov. 18:24 NKJV)

So, I’m looking forward to the Women of Faith gathering because I know we’ll all encounter Jesus there. And my friend and I will delight in Him together, even as He delights in the multitude of His friends.

Nice to stumble on your blog. My sister-in-law was at the conference and loved it. Hope you had a good time, too!

Thanks, E.C. :) Glad you found me. I've heard great things about the Women of Faith gatherings. Have you attended before?

No, but have seen tapes and read some by the participants. Part of my hesitancy, other than it is a busy time of year with school starting, is the tiny seats and narrow aisles in the baseball stadium where it is held. I went to a Greg Laurie event there, and it made me claustrophobic! Bummer.

I can understand that. I just learned that about the seating. I guess it's because so many people come, and they're trying to get them all in. I'll be posting here afterward and let folks know how it went.

I can't believe we haven't talked about this, Annette! I guess we're always too busy talking about a multitude of other things.

I've attended the conference four times. Three years, two girlfriends from church and I traveled down to Portland and had a nice weekend "away." One year we attended here in Seattle.

It's a wonderful event. You'll laugh, cry, and love the time of praising God through song. The teaching is entertaining, but also engaging and meaningful. Definitely an event to enjoy with girlfriends.

I'll look forward to hearing about your experience.

Friendship is such a beautiful picture of our relationship with God. I tend to focus mostly on the husband-wife analogy *smile*. Recently I watched a movie that had no romance at ALL! The whole plot was based on a friendship between two men. It was beautiful, and reminded me of the power of friendship. How amazing that God chooses to be our friend, and what a blessing the friendships of our sister in Him is to us as we sojourn here. Great post!
